Family Friendly Journey to Mission Beach

Remember the very first vacation you took as a family? Delighting in the new baby you carried in the baby sling, her head resting close to your heart when tired, and body facing out when she was excited to see all the new things there were to see, and at night you and your spouse were, for once, not too tired to stay up discussing the days adventures, whispering together, dreaming together, and making plans for the future. You returned home from this first family journey feeling stronger and more together than ever, instantly understanding the importance of a family vacation, and today, even as your family may be older, the numbers may have increased, and life is much more complicated, you are eager to experience another one. It’s time to begin your family-friendly journey to Mission Beach and your luxurious stay in our Penny Realty family homes—this guide will give you some ways to fill in all those vacation minutes with family friendly things to do in San Diego.

Day 1: Children Welcome Here

Perhaps the most terrifying part of any day out with kids is finding a kid-friendly restaurant. Children are not just tiny adults, and they don’t always act in the ways society deems respectable, and no one judges parents more than the other diners at most restaurants. Woody’s Breakfast & Burgers, however, located at 4111 Ocean Boulevard in San Diego, is a laidback beach spot that will love your kids nearly as much as you do. It is open every day for what is considered a “civilized” time, and their menu is filled with the meals kids recognize and love, something parents of picky eaters will truly appreciate.

Day 2: Mini Golf in Mission Beach

The appeal of miniature golf is appreciated at all ages, making it the perfect vacation activity for families, and Tiki Town Adventure Golf will allow guests to carry on the mini golf tradition. Located at 3114 Mission Boulevard inside Belmont Park, the course is an 18-hole tropical themed one that will end with a volcano and is destined to be one of your family’s favorite activities.

Day 3: A Walk in the Park

Since you are already here, now is the perfect time to explore historic Belmont Park, which is about to celebrate its 100th birthday, if you can imagine. Located at 3146 Mission Boulevard, the park offers restaurants, bars, carnival games, and exciting rides, including the Giant Dipper, a vintage wooden roller coaster that has delighted guests for almost as long as the park has been open. Laser tag, a laser maze, an arcade where the tickets will bring kids cool gifts, go karts, escape rooms, ziplines, and a 7D theater make this seven-acre park overlooking the sea a haven of fun and excitement for guests of all ages.

Day 4: Toes in the Sand

You can’t come all this way without planning on spending at least one day at the beaches of San Diego, and although we will talk more in detail about them later, we do want to give a quick mention of all the fun that awaits you on these white sands. From the water sports you can experience, including renting jet skis, kayaks, or even paddleboards from Action Sport Rentals, located at 998 W Mission Bay Drive, to the relaxation you will savor as your children frolic and the sun shines down on your Mission Beach journey of wonderful, there’s plenty to do at the beach!

Day 5: Ahoy There, Matey!

When you want to experience an adventure that will make your kids think you really are cool, the Maritime Museum of San Diego, located at 1492 N Harbour Drive, offers one that will blow their minds. Boarded! A New Pirate Adventure sets sail from San Diego Bay, offering an interactive experience that will make your entire family wish it never had to end. After being sworn in as an official member of the crew, honorary pirates (that would be you and your family!) will be trained in navigation, sword fighting, swabbing the deck, and helping to rescue sinking ships by bailing water. This is a limited time adventure, so be sure to sign up as soon as you know you will be in the area for these 90-minute shows.

Day 6: Explore the New and Improved SeaWorld

SeaWorld, located at 500 Sea World Drive, wasn’t always known for conservation and protection, but today that is their main goal, and as your family rides sea creature-themed roller coasters, watches fun shows, and learns about all the ways the creatures of the sea deserve to be protected and saved from careless boaters, you’re the education you receive will actually be fun, much to the surprise of your children!
