Proving once again that you don’t have to be stuffy to serve elevated food choices, the Wrench and Rodent Seabasstropub has no dress code, changes the rules of food prep often, and can make the simplest dish taste like it is fit for royalty. Featuring a large patio outside, guests can dine under the twisted trunk of a citrus tree, celebrating the beauty of Oceanside’s climate as they dine on locally sourced sushi and other foods from the sea.
The décor is colorful and as eclectic as the menu, offering surfboards as décor items, a wine chiller with a blue light repurposed as a fish cooler, and concrete floors that give the space a slightly industrial look. Wait staff is cheerful and efficient and a full bar ensures that you can enjoy your favorite cocktails, wine, beer, or sake with your sushi or seafood.
The Menu
Sushi is the star of this menu, although there is also an eclectic selection of seafood and land lubber dishes you will love and the Wrench and the Rodent also features a vegetarian sushi menu that even sushi purists will find surprisingly good. Chef’s Omakase Experience is moderately priced, offering a tasting selection of nigiri and sashimi that also includes plant based options for their animal friendly guests.
Their cocktail menu is as innovative as their food menu and if you love a good drink at the end of the day, we recommend you try their Tokyo Sunshine, made with vodka soju spirit, simple syrup (they make their own), Japanese yuzu, and topped with a sweet citrus salt rim.
