San Diego Zoo

A visit to the zoo is always a good idea, and a visit to the San Diego Zoo will take your wildlife viewing to the next level of incredible. Rated as one of the best zoos in the world, we can’t feel proud enough of all the good work it has done as a wildlife refuge and conservation site, and although Penny Realty does offer some pet friendly escapes that you may be considering making your own during your stay, animal lovers will want to spend more than a day or two exploring all the zoo provides. This guide to the San Diego Zoo will show you all the fun you can while walking on the wild side during your California adventures.

Located at 2920 Zoo Drive, Open Daily from 9AM until 6 PM

Constructed in 1916 and residing on 100 acres of prime San Diego land, there are over 12,000 animals (680+ species) that call the San Diego Zoo their home. Offering natural habitats for all, their most notable exhibit may be the Panda Canyon Panda Exhibit, which is one of very few available in the United States. The two giant pandas who reside there, Yun Chuan and Xin Bao, are local celebrities and worth checking out while you are there.

Amur Leopards to Zebras

Although the pandas are popular, there are many more species to explore, including the Galapagos tortoise exhibit, in which you will find the zoo’s oldest denizens, some of which are believed to be over 100 years old. The care and thought put into all the habitats, including the Gorilla Tropics and Scripps Aviary, where tropical plants are not groomed, giving the creatures who live there an authentic experience, ensure that our visits will feel like we have stepped out of San Diego and into the tropics, the rainforest, the savannah, adding an international flair to our adventures.

Activities and Experiences

Although just visiting the zoo is fun enough, the San Diego Zoo offers a variety of activities including bus tours, train rides, even a 4D Theater that explores the world around us even more in-depth. Also offering shops and restaurants and often celebrating holidays and special events, their wildlife experiences will give visitors an up close and personal meeting with some of their most popular animals, including an early morning Panda Walk and their Animals in Action experience that takes guests on a behind the scenes glimpse at some of their wildlife ambassadors.
